Tired of having a shawl consistently fall off my shoulders while greeting guests at my sons wedding....I made a decision to design my own wrap with a touch of a stole in it! Made with a blended silk fabric that is slightly embossed and a touch of matching lace . An extravagant and rich fabric with a softness reminiscent of velvet. A creamy ivory hue that looks like it has been just touched with a hint of vanilla....elegant!For sale at Shades of Wyldemor.

Bride and Groom

June was a very busy month...it held a wedding in our family....it was a time to celebrate....recall...laugh...reconnect with family....And, to let go. I never ever wanted to be a parent who could never cut the umbilical cord. You raise your children for that very purpose, to have them move on....watching his face when he first saw his bride come down the isle was incredible, they radiated happiness and love...watching them leave was a mixture of joy and pain...very much like the day he was born. Life goes on and it is good....

The Groom and G.I. Joes

How is that one moment I was stepping over G.I Joe figures on the floor.... And could not figure out why on earth there was about $5.00 worth of pennies up on their bedroom floor a couple times a week! (only to find out later they would turn off the lights and fling pennies at each other...aptly called "Penny Wars"...Or, it seems like it was just yesterday when I saw him run out on the football field and immediately said a silent prayer for safety....One second I was running out to the car with hot rollers still in my hair (always the last one out the door for church) and I heard a little three year old voice remark "Mama, yor da prettiest Mama in the hole ride worrld"....then today when I woke up and realized it happened overnight...He grew up just as his brothers did, into one of the finest men I know. You will be a wonderful husband to Mallory and a amazingly handsome groom! Thank you JoJo for the absoulute joy it has been to watch you grow up into a man that loves the Lord.

"For Rent"

"How could I resist a pink tea pot birdhouse??? We have a gorgeous tri colored beech tree, that I rescued from a nursery....It was only four feet tall (if it was really stretching) and laying over on it's side....dirt spilling out of the container...and dry as a bone....Somehow, I knew I had to save it!
Baby animals and neglected nursery plants are a weakness of mine. As soon as we planted it under our front window it began to respond....Although a slow grower it blesses us with pink leaves through most of the year....In the Fall the leaves turn a gorgeous burgundy and bronze shade...I love this tree! It's explosion of color in the Spring makes me happy! And, how much fun to be a bird and take residance in such a beautiful spot!!

My Grandmothers Hands

Jennifer Caroline Johnson Salmonson....my grandmother was born on May 23, 1894. One of fourteen children she knew how to make do... One hundred and one years later we said goodbye to her. I remember how beautiful Gram was to me....She smelled like ponds cold creme and fresh bread and egg coffee. I have yet to see a house as clean as her magnificent Victorian. The walnut wood always was polished to a high sheen and on holidays decorated. The tulips and daffodils she planted were tucked in vases through out the house. The dining room table was laden on Easter with hams, pickled beets, deviled eggs, rutabagas, scalloped potatoes, green beans, creamed peas.... her homemade Parker house rolls.... Her spice cake, cinnamon rolls, coffee cakes and doughnuts were staples that I grew accustomed to. Her hands ...always crocheting lace for sheets, baby blankets and pillow cases...her knitting was so fine I still have never seen anyone who could compare. When she was old her hands still held a grace to them... I remember on Easter Sundays her impeccable taste...White gloves, pale suit, stylish hat with a little net on it and spectator shoes. When we walked into church I was so proud of her... Treasured memories of a little girl who is now a Grandmother .... I hope my home reflects the many memories my Grandmother gave me.

Tiffany Fluffybottom

I am having way too much fun naming my store inventory and creating personalities....even friendships amongst them. Hmmmm, I'm thinking I must be a frustrated children's author!

I was so excited to have a lovely but brief interview with Ms. Tiffany Fluffybottom. Our interview was cut short as she was on her way to meet her beau Peter Cottontail from the historic McGregers farm. Ms. Fluffybottom is a strong environmentalist and expresses exquisite style from the recent selection by designer Robyn Birde. Ms Birde is known for her eclectic and fantastic creations and has become quite sought after in the green community. Although we did hope to speak to Ms. Bird herself she was unavailable for comment , having flown south for the winter months.
Tiffany dress is of medium weight denim and falls mid length. A comfy light weight dress that speaks of casual style and is easy to wear. Her crocheted lace collar combined with the green organza wrap and bow brings a day dress right into evening wear. A straw brimmed hat speaks of impeccable style ! The birde signature is mounted gracefully at the crown. Small silk flowers and greenery add style and a hint of glamor. A matching Birde handbag with greenery and pussy willows softens the entire ensemble. Add a sweet nest and you can see why the entire combination works for Spring.

Easter

These sweet chicks were Easter decorations at a trade show I attended. I fell in love with them....However, when I got them home I had to name them. They reminded me of the music I was listening to when I was admiring them!

Andrea Birdcelli and Sarah Brightfeather practice endlessly...Their sweet love songs can only be described as timeless....Perfection!! They would be most honored to attend your Easter dinner and share a private performance or serenade a sweet lullaby in your babies room.

I live in the Midwest....were used to unpredictable Springs, one minute you can smell the ground thawing the next minute the wind cuts right through you. Busy sewing again, the black embroidered gown is just waiting it's turn. I have three new ones that took its spot....why do I love it so much? I think it is the colors, textures.... the hum of the sewing machine. My machine sits under a large window overlooking my garden...If Spring ever arrives I can watch the flower and trees bud. And, of course the birds!! Three feeders and a birdbath invites them to my yard. I love watching something I designed and envisioned take life...watching someone when they see a gown for the first time is always a treat... The way their face lights up! I firmly beleive each of us has a gift to us...we in turn find out what we want to do with it...then give it back for others.

Sisters

Happy Birthday Kate and Carol!! The best sisters anyone could ever have!!

A young wife sat on a sofa on a hot humid day,

'Don't forget your sisters,' she advised, swirling
the tea leaves to the bottom of her glass. 'They'll
be more important as you get older. No matter how
much you love your husband, no matter how much you
love the children you may have, you are still going
to need sisters. Remember to go places with them now
and then; do things with them.'

'Remember that 'sisters' means ALL the women..
your girlfriends, your daughters, and all your other
women relatives too. 'You'll need other women. Women
always do.'

What a funny piece of advice!' the young woman
thought. Haven't I just gotten married?
Haven't I just joined the couple-world? I'm now a
married woman, for goodness sake! A grownup! Surely
my husband and the family we may start will be all I
need to make my life worthwhile!'

But she listened to her mother. She kept contact
with her sisters and made more women friends each
year. As the years tumbled by, one after another,
she gradually came to understand that her mother really
knew what she was talking about. As time and nature
work their changes and their mysteries upon a woman,
sisters are the mainstays of her life..

After more than 50 years of living in this world,
here is what I've learned:
THIS SAYS IT ALL:
Time passes.
Life happens.
Distance separates.
Children grow up.
Jobs come and go
Love waxes and wanes.
Men don't do what they're supposed to do.
Hearts break.
Parents die.
Colleagues forget favors.
Careers end.
BUT.........
Sisters are there, no matter how much time and how
many miles are
between you.

A girl friend is never farther away than needing her can reach

When you have to walk that lonesome valley and you

have to walk it by yourself, the women in your life

will be on the valley's rim, cheering you on,
praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on
your behalf, and waiting with open arms at the
valley's end..
Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk
beside you...Or come in and carry you out.

Girlfriends, daughters, granddaughters,
daughters-in-law, sisters, sisters-in-law, Mothers,
Grandmothers, aunties, nieces, cousins, and extended
family: all bless our life!

The world wouldn't be the same without women, and
neither would I. When we began this adventure called
womanhood, we had no idea of the incredible joys or
sorrows that lay ahead. Nor did we know how much we
would need each other..
Every day, we need each other still. Pass this on
to all the women who help make your life meaningful.

"The Tinniest Flower Girl"

I was asked to make a dress for a favorite model. Abigail has modeled for me a couple times....Me getting used to a new camera and taking pictures of a baby is like trying to cut hair on a moving target!! This was taken by someone else and captured her perfectly...This little girl has more personality packed into her one and one half year frame than some adults get in a lifetime! She was absolutely the tinniest flower girl I have seen. She reminded me of a tiny tulip in her foo foo dress!

Hey, Thanks Mom

Any excuse to rearrange...add a tea towel...add a pillow...change a photo...change a picture...put up lighter weight curtains.... pull out the china...I'm in!! I love decorating for a good party! Especially a holiday.... When my five sons were in high School I let them know straight up... if you don't decorate this brown lunch bag for Valentines day... I'm not giving you nothing!! (They believed me???) Their extent of decorating the brown lunch bag was their name and possibly a heart. After each bag was completed it was put on my hutch to be filled with my excess of Valentine treats for each of them. Chocolate... licorice...Cashews...gummi worms...skittles. And, of course one mushy card from me. Although I might have heard a "You have got to be kidding Mom" for the most part they were such good sports... On Valentines Day I always got a card from each and a laugh as they checked out their brown bag filled with Valentine treats.

Who is Valentine????

So, who was Saint Valentine? One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with wives and families, he outlawed marriage for young men — his crop of potential soldiers. Valentine, realizing the injustice of the decree, defied Claudius and continued to perform marriages for young lovers in secret.

I love old items...I am dubbed the queen of quite a lot and a happy pack rat! When I discovered
this vintage recreated print of a little girl I had to include it into a vintage Valentine pillow. In the beginning stages I am comparing the fabric back I have used on the back to the print itself. Pillows that are designed to slip off easily are the best... this one you can change the cover for holidays or for a new look. And....finally the finished product! Time Marchs On

We have welcomed a new member to our family....Each of our grandchildren are special...brilliant...remarkable...priceless. (I could say lots more, but I won't) However, the newest little person to arrive has something quite special!!!! My Father was blessed with three daughters...I am still a little unaware of how he dealt with the different moments a tsunami of estrogen would sweep through our home.... Perhaps it was his humor, it was very contagious and I think it also helped him keep his sanity. He was not a stranger to hard times or losses...when he was just a young man he tragically lost his parents, brother and sister all within a couple of years... it was a very hard blow. He remained the last in his small family to carry on the name of Willmore. Time marched on and the day came to say goodbye to him. At my Fathers funeral, my then thirteen year old son put his arm around my Mother and said "Gram when I have a son I will name him after Gramps"...Just a little over a month ago I met another David Willmore. Welcome into our family baby David!!

Thank you MiMi from MiMI Roses Chenille Bouquet for nominating me for this award!

Here's the story behind this award: The authors say that blogs who receive this award are exceedingly charming. This blog invests in the PROXIMITY in space, time and relationships. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in prizes or self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that even more friendships are propagated. So, now it's time for me to pass on this award and 'propagate' some friendships !

"Ode to Blue"

Every year right around this time I need blue....Dark blue, Sapphire, navy, sky, sea, teal blue, periwinkle, cobalt, silver blue, royal blue. I love pinks and ivory but what I am really drawn to is blue and white. In the summer I can't get enough of the greens yellows red and oranges through out my garden...then fall creeps in and I want the gorgeous shades of a woods in my home and wardrobe.....Plums, chocolate, nutmeg, yellow, sage, copper. When Christmas arrives my home is in deep reds and forest shades ... rich extravagant jewel tones ... Then around January and February I need blue. You won't see a predominate blue room in my home with the exception of my sewing room. I picked the wallpaper out twenty four years ago and it is still what I love. Blue comforts me... I have selected some favorite images of blue...items I sell in my shop and things I've had for years...... some blue gowns I have made...prints of blue gowns I would love to sew...and photo's of what I love best about blue.... I hope you enjoy them too .

Here we go!!! I have the basic bodice sewn. It is not looking like much yet. But, as I work on the sleeves and add the laces and pleats, it will really transform the entire look. The fabric shown is sheer over black satin. When the sleeves are added they will certainly glam it up!! The back tails in the sketch just did not work for historic authenticity...so after checking some 1900 patterns I found one design that had a longer drape in the back (but with no split).

Labels:

"1876 Gown Rough Sketch"

I have started a new Victorian bustle gown...I had to postpone working on it as Christmas preparations and Christmas sales at my store took preeminence. My sketch shows a general plan...although sometimes the end result deviates from the sketch. I love the fabric... the bodice will be a delicate black spun sheer with silk embroidery throughout it. Amazing silk threads copper, nutmeg, sage...simply gorgeous threads that reflect the light beautifully!! The skirt and pleats will be a black satin. I am looking for antique laces now. I still can't decide whether to make it totally as a ball gown or as a visiting dress. I have to finish a flowers girl dress this week, then I am determined to get the Victorian done!! I will be posting more pictures as it evolves!!!

"Dang, its gone"

In a matter of hours it was all gone!!! The snow melted leaving several children very saddened that they can't go sledding!!! The rain was steady and ate it up...so cold, bone gripping dark drizzles...I happen to like the snow. Well...more than like it, I love it!! What can I say? I have grown up in the Midwest and snow always met days off from school, sledding, skating, baking, snow forts, snow ball fights, snow angels, helping Dad shovel and watching the dog disappear in drifts. Mittens and boots tucked by the heating vent to dry off. Dog tired at night and sleeping soundly from all the shoveling !

Even as an adult I still love it!! My youngest son is almost 24 and called me this year and said "Mom I thought of you today when we had the first flurries, did you make doughnuts?" First snowfalls always are celebrated with making doughnuts as soon as possible. I categorize events by "Remember it was the year with the snowstorm that John came over with his snow blower" So, since it is muddy and yucky outside my grandson Jacob surprised me with this adorable play dough snowman!!

"Anne's Gown"

This dreamy dress was created for a bride. Thirty eight yards of burgundy velvet and dozens of hand sewn rhinestone embellishments (I stopped counting how many I sewed) it became a royal gown. Ann's gown suited her perfectly, her dark hair and gorgeous completion made her look like a Camelot princess. I will be starting another similiar to this, but first need to finish the black satin bustle gown I am currently up to my elbows in!!

"Christmas Gingersnap Crinkle Cookie"

This cookie is a family tradition at our house. I don't have a lot of sweet eaters but this one always ends up disappearing very fast. It aroma is fantastic, it gets better with age...loaded with the sharpness of ginger and sweetness of Molasses. I took a basic recipe and tweeked it. Hope you family loves it as much as mine does!

"The Best Gingersnap Molasses Crinkle Cookie"

3/4 Cup shortening (half butter)
1 Cup brown sugar
1 egg
4 Tbsp. molasses
2 and 1/4 Cup flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
2 Tbsp. finely chopped candied ginger

Cream Shortening and sugar together. Add egg and molasses and beat until well blended. In another small bowl mix flour , salt soda and spices. Add dry ingredients to creamed mixture and mix thoroughly. Add one tsp. of flour to the candied ginger peel and toss is around. Stir into dough (flouring the ginger peel or recipes that calls for raisins helps them to fold into the dough without clumping together and a more even distribution) Chill slightly until you can shape dough into ball about one inch in diameter. Dip tops of balls into sugar and place two inches apart on lightly greased cookie sheets. Bake 350 for 12 to 15 minutes Makes two dozen
